Setup DeltaCopy
Q. How do I setup DeltaCopy
A. First lets install DeltaCopy.
Before you can go any further you will need to receive a confirmation from us that your User has been setup on our Server.
If you do not have a confirmation email contact us on 06-379-6668 or 04-831-1401.
Install Delta Copy
Basic Installation instructions here
When installing DeltaCopy the last step asks if you want to launch DeltaCopy.
We DO NOT want to do this.
Just finishe the installation and continue here.
Once DeltaCopy is installed it can be found under:
- Click on the Start Button
- Go to All Programs
- Then DeltaCopy
- Then DeltaCopy Client

We will not be using the DeltaCopy Server, as we have our own specialized servers.
This will open up a blank DeltaCopy Session.

Create your profile.
- Double Click on Add New Profile.
- Enter a Profile Name. (Any name will do)
- Enter a Host Name. (This would be mal.backup.geek.nz, unless told otherwise by us)
- Enter a Virtual Directory Name. (This is your username that was in the email we sent you with /home/ in front of it.)
Do not click on the [...] button, we do not use this feature.
Do not click on Test Connection.

- Please call us if there are any problems. 06-379-6668
- Finally Click on Add Profile.
You will now have a profile in your list.

- Now we need to add file and folders to this profile.
- Click on the Add Folder Button.

- Navigate and choose a folder and click on OK.
- Do this as many times as needed to create your backup list.

Next we want to goto the Options Tab.
- We must UNTICK the Remove deleted files from server options, as this will protect you from accidently deleting files and then having the backup also delete them.
- And place a tick in Connect via SSH

Setting up the secure certificate.
We need to down load the file "id_rsa" from your .ssh folder in your backup user on our server. For security purposes we do not send this to you.
Login in to http://mal.backup.geek.nz/horde with your username and password.
- Go to .ssh
- Click the download button to download id_rsa to your PC, save this file to C:\Program Files\Synametrics Technologies\DeltaCopy
- Now we need to tell DeltaCopy how to use this certificate.
- In the options tab
- In Additional Parameters place the following
- -e 'ssh.exe -p 2022 -i id_rsa'
- Next we need to tell DeltaaCopy to trust our backup server.
- Download this file "known_hosts" and save it to:
- Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\.ssh
- Windows 7 C:\Users\[your user name]\.ssh
- You may have to create the .ssh folder
Under Authentication, enter the Username you registered with, a password is not needed as we will be using secure ssh certificates.
- (If you use a name already taken we will have let you know in the Registration Feedback.)

Testing
We want to run a tests to make sure everything is working.
- Right click your profile name.
- Click on Run Now.
- If the backup does not run, but just sits there doing nothing, this is normally an indication that one of the steps avoce has been missed.
Scheduling Automatic Backups
You should have already setup a Local Backup User- Next we want to Schedule this Backup to run automatically
- Click on the Modify Schedule button
- The Scheduled Tasks window opens with your back up name on it.
- This is where we want to change the Run as: to the backup user we previously created.
- Click on the Set password... button and enter the backup password of backup.
- Enter the password a second time in the confirm area and click on OK

Under Schedule tab choose a time of day you want the backup to run.
- Around 3:00am would be good.
- Make sure you set the Schedule Task to daily and Schedule Task Daily to Every 1 Days
- Click on Apply and OK

Finally we need to set up mail notification.
- Click on the email icon
- Fill out the email window similar to this but with your settings for your email provider, not mine.

- Click on Test Email button.
- You should receive a test email.
- If this does not work call us.
- Click on Ok
All done:
Click on the X to close DeltaCopy.
Tomorrow you should have an email confirming that nights backup.
